Hard work should not lead to burn-out.  When do we draw the line? ~Are we seduced to overachievement? I read an interesting tip in this Harvard  BN article.

When employees go above and beyond, the extra mile at work, they often do this not because they intrinsically want to, but because they feel that they have to proof themselves. They often are unable to carry out their regular job duties and be a good citizen at the same time.

Given the importance of citizenship behavior for organizational success, it is important that managers and  employees find better ways to go beyond the call of duty in order to help make work more meaningful and less depleting. One potentially effective way of doing this is something we refer to as “citizenship crafting.”. They have to make sure that they have consenssus on the assigments. Not only on content but also on the process and time one has to deliver.
